Gyhrdrak the "Bonebreaker" Druchiisbane

Not much is known about Gyhrdrak Druchiisbane, also known in the Blood Bowl community as the “Bonebreaker.” It is reported that he hails from the more rural communal mountains of Chrace, in the Elven kingdom of Ulthwae. After relocating to the capital city of Tor Achare as a young man, he was selected for service among the Pheonix bodyguard known as the White Lions, where he distinguished himself.
Gyhrdrak plays as a star blitzer on the Tor Achare Lions Blood Bowl team, one of two professional teams hosted by the capital city. It is reported that Gyhrdrak is the strongest High Elf in all of Ulthuan. His propensity to cause numerous casualties each game is what has earned him the moniker “Bonebreaker.” His strength and Stature have become legendary not only throughout the six kingdoms of the High Elf realms, but ubiquitously among opposing teams on the grid-iron.

Never compromising his performance on the pitch, as soon as an opposing player is red-boxed, Gyhrdrak is quick to lend a helping hand winning him many friends among other teams, star players and heroes of other mortal races.

Ironically, Korhil Lionmane, who is the current high commander of the Chrace White Lions bodyguard, displays very similar characteristics to Gyhrdrak.  Whenever the “Bonebreaker” is performing on the grid-iron, Commander Korhil always seems to be conspicuously absent from his duties. However, due to his popularity, nobody (not even reporters) seem to care to comment.

Regardless, look for Commander Kor… er um… Gyhrdrak the “Bonebreaker” for his next appearance on the pitch!

Ratsniff Cheesecurd by Noah J

Starting off just as a lineman Ratsniff Cheesecured has become the best Skaven player in history. He is smaller than other rats and so he was picked on every day he went to a game. The other players stated he could not be a player because of his size. One day when he was at a game against the orks, half of his tail was ripped off which is why he has such a small tail. Outraged, Ratsniff was injured and could not play for many months. But, he did not use his time uselessly… no indeed! His burning wheel of firedesire and anger made him train every day. With anger coursing through his veins and fighting through the pain, he became one of the richest and strongest Skaven all star players in the world. Which brings him to where we are now; prepare yourselves because this angry rat is coming for you!

Rocky Mountain Rampage Rocks!!!

Well friends, I was given the fortunate opportunity by Bryan Tew to paint up this fantastic sculpt of a yhetee by Jason Warren of Glove Ink Studio, for the Rocky Mountain Rampage Blood Bowl Tournament this weekend, hosted at Blackfyre Games in Orem, Utah!  Bryan, the tournament organizer, asked if I could do something in "yellow"!!! (I know right???) But I decided it would be a particular difficult challenge as yellow pigments and tinctures in paint are very translucent and tough to do... and do well!  (The lighting washes out the yellow a bit, but trust... it is there!) Then, add to the fact, that I wanted to produce a 'rougher', matted down fur effect, on some smoother parts of the mini, which requires a different brush technique, and I decided to tackle the challenge!  Hope you enjoy the result!

Really love this dynamic pose!

The direction of the fur, really adds to the 'momentum' of the character!

This big guy is alllll pewter... trying to balance him on that small base was a challenge!

Really enjoyed painting those big toes! Good Fun!!!

Great detail on the hands, feet, and anatomical positioning of everything!

Here he is, charging down the field to clobber some poor, unwitting opponent!
THANK YOU for taking the time to peek!

For those you of you that have time, and inclination, don't miss out on this great event...

Atlantic Coast Charity Cup: Capturing the Spirit!

Well, just got back from the ACCC hosted by Nate Beam, and the Knights of Columbus in Norfolk, VA.  Many of the participants in attendance have become friends over the last few years while rolling the dice on the Blood Bowl Pitch.  This year the even raised $2,500 dollars with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project!  Very worthwhile venue!

I attended with young-blood Ryan, and former Marine Paul, as well as former soldier Jacob.  We got up at 0'Dark-thirty on Saturday morning to drive up, and play three games.  I finished 2-1-0 and had a great time! Everyone that I spoke with was in high spirits (yes, pun intended!) and having a good time!  I don't know why Blood Bowl attracts such awesome peeps... but if you don't play, you really should start!

Here are a few pics from the Mayhem had at the event:

My Orc team, the Bittersand Swamp Gators lining up to face off against Bob's Norse! (Yes, I drew two Norse players this tournament!)

Mike's Snow troll and Ulfwerner laying out two of my Orc Blitzers! Unfortunately for me... this was too frequent of a scene for my poor Orcs!

Mike's Snow troll ended up red-boxing eight of my players in my first match-up! He went on to take the "Most Violent" trophy for his ol'pal Dave "Doombeard" Dwarf-master... and somehow I managed a tie this game! ::Sheesh!::

Roy sharing war stories while several coaches finish up round two of their matches!

Jacob, Paul, and Ryan look on while Bob "The Barbarian" of Norsca strolls by while the lead tables wrap-up their matches!

Roy Miller's fantastic looking goblin team with the gobbos sculpted as Jawas from the epic film Star Wars, and the Trolls are sculpted as some kinda funky droid these little nippers probably sold on their goofy looking merchant barges!

...A Little More Wet Paint on a Wood Elf Treeman!

Here is another mini that I need some help with... a Wood Elf Treeman!  This was (again) one of the originals I posted up on this blog not really expecting much from Cool Mini or Not, and he has remained one of the high scoring minis on the sight!

Here is the link to the original post along with the link to him at Cool Mini or Not!

I really liked this mini when I came across it, and thought it would be a fantastic treeman blocker for Blood Bowl!  So I picked it up, and pieced it together and painted it up!  Really like the overall effect of how it turned out! :D

Do go to Cool Mini or Not and vote on him! Thanks!

Wonder, Wit, and a Little Wet Paint!

Wanted to 'pause' for a few moments and say "thanks" to all of you out there who have posted comments, and continue to make blogging such a rewarding experience!  I remember the first time I heard about it (years ago) and thought to myself, "what's the big deal?"  Well... it is a certainly rewarding to have a place where I can share a little tiny sliver of myself with others, and have folks respond in such a kind way, so again, many thanks!

The one thing that I was not expecting, and I suppose has brought a bit of wonder to me, is how many there are out there who thoroughly enjoy the miniature world of collecting, painting, war-gaming and the like!  It has always been a passion of mine ever since I was a kid, and was a little frustrated (and even a bit perturbed) by the negativity surrounding it in the early 80's and even a bit in the early 90's... my, how faaaaar culture as changed!

I don't know that I have anything terribly witty to share other than the fact that I have found this hobby of ours to be "beautifully simple, and simply beautiful!"

Regarding the wet paint; well, all I can say is it has been very rewarding thus far cutting my teeth into a very dynamic and challenging industry, and I am still a bit 'wet behind the ears' so-to-speak working as a pro-painter.  But my brush always has paint on it, and I always have a project I am working on, which is incredibly rewarding!

Having said that, if ya'll (there is my southern! :D) wouldn't mind giving me my last little boost over a small hump, I would greatly appreciate it!  In order to get ranked at:
...which facilitates other professional achievements, I am just shy of getting an official ranking, and I could really use your help!

Over the next few days, I will be reposting six posts/pics that I need just a few more votes on; if you would be so kind as to take just a couple of seconds and vote (provided you haven't already) it would be most appreciated!

The first, is a post that is dated November 10th (Happy Birthday to my beloved Marine Corps!) regarding a trophy that was brought back from a competition in Virginia...

Here is the pic on the post, which is also a picture of the miniatures that I am asking for a vote on at Cool Mini or Not!

I am just a few votes shy of getting it officially ranked... thank you so much for your taking the time to look, and vote!

Agememnon the Troll!

We interrupt these inquisitorial WIP proceedings to bring you this special message:

AGEMEMNON THE TROLL!

One of my good friends is sponsoring the Black Hole Brawl, NAF sanctioned Blood Bowl tournament in Raleigh, NC this weekend, and asked that I provide the painting for one of the prize miniatures that is to be given away as a prize.  This fantastic Troll Star Player (Agememnon) was a blast to paint!

I tried hard to stay with a complimentary color-scheme sticking with blues and oranges.  Here are some frontal poze pics...
 (click any pic to enlarge)

And here are the back ones! :D
(vote for me at Cool Mini or Not!)
I surely hope that whomever draws this big guy can put him to good use!

Dark Elf Defiance!

Here are the last few Dark Elves!  These Dark Elf Blitzers were very fun to paint, and I really like the large skulls on the chest plate armor... VERY DElfy!

This particular Blitzer has a very deft look to him, as if he is sprinting down the field with his fist knuckled up ready to pop an unsuspecting player in the chops!

Of all the blitzers, this one is my favorite!  I love his dynamic pose.  I love his full faced mask reminiscent of a gladiator.  I love his full-faced skull-chestplate.  Just a really fantastic mini!

Here is the completed team!  Every time I finish up a team, I find myself feeling very grateful for the opportunity to get my brush on another set of miniatures.  It is a very gratifying and fulfilling endeavor.  Hope you like them!

Stabitty! Stabitty!

This is a wicked looking pair of Dark Elf Assassins from Gaspez Arts that were custom ordered for a Dark Elf Blood Bowl Team that I am finishing up.  These nasties run up to the opposing players, and instead of throwing a block on them, can stab them instead with their assassin blades! (Ouch!!) If they pick-up the skill "multiple block" they can run up to TWO players on the opposing team and... Stabitty! Stabitty! Very annoying!

Assassin number 15 has his blades in the 'upright' position ready to do a 'lung punch' on an unsuspecting victim!

Assassin number 16 has his blades down, ready to sneak up behind and do a throat cut, or hit a major artery in the neck! Wicked little DElves!

(vote on these guys at Cool Mini or Not!)

Dark Elf Runners?

Yeah... I know, why are these Dark Elf "Runners" standing up with footballs like they are throwers?!  These GW minis are throwback OOP minis from the early 1990's when Blood Bowl DElf teams actually had throwers instead of runners!

With the changes in the Blood Bowl Competition Rules (LRB 6.0), DElves no longer have thrower positionals... but whatever!  The minis work just fine for filling in for the runner minis.

Since both "Runners" *wink* are exactly the same mini--I am only putting up a few pics of some sides of one of the models.
Overall I am rather happy with how they turned out!

Catch ya tomorrow! :D

Wild, Wild, Witches!

Welcome to the Wild, Wild, Witches!  These Dark Elf ladies are absolutely vicious on the Blood Bowl pitch!  With Jump-up, Dodge, and Frenzy, they are capable of bludgeoning and beating the opposition into submission (and sometimes into the crowd) they are a must on any DElf team!

The client who commissioned me to paint this team wanted a "wintery theme" to go along with the name "Grimm's Reapers" so the blue skin was a 'must have' on these ladies!

The Number Seven Witch Elf has a deadly elegance about her that would make anyone trepidatious about approaching her!
(You can vote for her at Cool Mini or Not!)

This second Witch Elf kind of looks like the Bride of Frankenstein, and probably hits like it too with those double fist spikes she has to impale the opposition on... Nasty!
(Go to Cool Mini or Not! to vote for her)

Really need to thank Chris for commissioning me to paint up his DElves--great fun!  Looking forward to posting the rest of the team!

(In case you forgot... here is what "she" looks like!)

Wight Delight!

This is the last post on this Undead Team, and the client (the nine year old son of an active coach) has been given "pre-view" pics and is most excited to receive his belated Christmas present from his dad!

The last two team members are officially "wights" on the team, but are really more of a wraith with scythe-looking-thingy-arms...

Truthfully, when the team was delivered to me for painting, I immediately saw these two positionals (core team members), and could not wait to get my brush on them!

These guys had to have the arms pinned, and the drilling took quite a bit of effort as the arms were just barely thick enough to accommodate my pin-vice; but more challenging was the need to bend the arms at the 'elbows' without damaging the arms!

The result, however, I think is rather dramatic... and I feel incredibly sorry for anyone on the opposing team who has to try and mark-up on one of these guys!
(Is there a rule for "apparitional fear" where a player must take a leadership test when [if failed] must be immobilized for the turn after wetting their pants?)
There SHOULD BE with these guys! LOL!!

Here is the whole team, finished and ready for delivery!
Tell me what you think!

Ghoulish Blue Hue!

Today we have four Ghouls painted in a very Ghouley Blue Hue!  Of all the minis on this Undead Blood Bowl Team my client has me doing... these are my second favorite minis!  Very cool poses!

Ghoul number five must have caught the head from the Zombie thrower that was being tossed down field... or, he took it off of another team-mate in order to distract the opposition!

Ghoul number six has a definite "Bring it on!" stance that I love!

Ghoul number seven seems to be pointing at someone on the opposite team, with his tongue hanging out, almost as if to say, "You're next!" as he licks his chops!

Ghoul number eight is all business, ready to hunt you down at a movement of seven spaces! (which is pretty fast for an undead team!)

Thanks to the team owner for commissioning me to paint these ghoulish guys...
Good Fun!

The Skillette's On!

Years ago, someone asked me, "What do you get when you cook the meat off of a body for an autopsy?" I replied, "I have no idea!" They then said (with a smug smirk), "An M.E. asking in frustration 'Who left the Skillette on?'!"  Yeah... REALLY bad joke!  But it applies here with the Skillette-ons *wink* from the Blood Bowl team I am finishing up!

The first skeleton has a menacing "block" stance look like he is ready to stop the line from coming through all on his own! (The "mad-dog-one-eye" look doesn't hurt!)

The second is my favorite!!! Arm up in the air, victorious after knocking down (or intimidating) the opposition into submission!

The last of the trio has a pose like he is calling down on Nuffle himself to influence the die in such a way, that he will get a positive result for a knock-down! LOL

Here are the three of them, ready to throw down (or scare you out of town) and send you running home to mommy!

One of the more FAMOUS skeletons... Achmed as Santa!

Zombies Eat Brains... You're Safe! :D

With the rage about Zombies in the pop culture over the last few years, I thought I would share these crazy looking Zombies from the team I have been commissioned to paint... these are Gaspez Arts Zombie Sculpts for a Blood Bowl Undead Team.

This first guy happened to pull his own arm off in order to use it as an atlatl!
(You can see this guy at Cool Mini or Not!)

Player number thirteen has kicked the ball, and had it inadvertently land on his head! LOL!!!
(This one is also at Cool Mini or Not!)

This poor sap is so busy trying to tuck his insides from the outside, his hands are full!
(...also at Cool Mini or Not!)

This last one is trying to confuse the opposition by tossing his own grape down the field instead of the ball...
perhaps if he is playing Orcs, or Gobbos, he might convince them!
(Vote at Cool Mini or Not!)

Here are all four of these guys together--great minis!!!

Here is a hilarious 90 second clip on why Zombies shouldn't play sports:
