Dark Elf Defiance!

Here are the last few Dark Elves!  These Dark Elf Blitzers were very fun to paint, and I really like the large skulls on the chest plate armor... VERY DElfy!

This particular Blitzer has a very deft look to him, as if he is sprinting down the field with his fist knuckled up ready to pop an unsuspecting player in the chops!

Of all the blitzers, this one is my favorite!  I love his dynamic pose.  I love his full faced mask reminiscent of a gladiator.  I love his full-faced skull-chestplate.  Just a really fantastic mini!

Here is the completed team!  Every time I finish up a team, I find myself feeling very grateful for the opportunity to get my brush on another set of miniatures.  It is a very gratifying and fulfilling endeavor.  Hope you like them!

Stabitty! Stabitty!

This is a wicked looking pair of Dark Elf Assassins from Gaspez Arts that were custom ordered for a Dark Elf Blood Bowl Team that I am finishing up.  These nasties run up to the opposing players, and instead of throwing a block on them, can stab them instead with their assassin blades! (Ouch!!) If they pick-up the skill "multiple block" they can run up to TWO players on the opposing team and... Stabitty! Stabitty! Very annoying!

Assassin number 15 has his blades in the 'upright' position ready to do a 'lung punch' on an unsuspecting victim!

Assassin number 16 has his blades down, ready to sneak up behind and do a throat cut, or hit a major artery in the neck! Wicked little DElves!

(vote on these guys at Cool Mini or Not!)

Dark Elf Runners?

Yeah... I know, why are these Dark Elf "Runners" standing up with footballs like they are throwers?!  These GW minis are throwback OOP minis from the early 1990's when Blood Bowl DElf teams actually had throwers instead of runners!

With the changes in the Blood Bowl Competition Rules (LRB 6.0), DElves no longer have thrower positionals... but whatever!  The minis work just fine for filling in for the runner minis.

Since both "Runners" *wink* are exactly the same mini--I am only putting up a few pics of some sides of one of the models.
Overall I am rather happy with how they turned out!

Catch ya tomorrow! :D

Wild, Wild, Witches!

Welcome to the Wild, Wild, Witches!  These Dark Elf ladies are absolutely vicious on the Blood Bowl pitch!  With Jump-up, Dodge, and Frenzy, they are capable of bludgeoning and beating the opposition into submission (and sometimes into the crowd) they are a must on any DElf team!

The client who commissioned me to paint this team wanted a "wintery theme" to go along with the name "Grimm's Reapers" so the blue skin was a 'must have' on these ladies!

The Number Seven Witch Elf has a deadly elegance about her that would make anyone trepidatious about approaching her!
(You can vote for her at Cool Mini or Not!)

This second Witch Elf kind of looks like the Bride of Frankenstein, and probably hits like it too with those double fist spikes she has to impale the opposition on... Nasty!
(Go to Cool Mini or Not! to vote for her)

Really need to thank Chris for commissioning me to paint up his DElves--great fun!  Looking forward to posting the rest of the team!

(In case you forgot... here is what "she" looks like!)

Devil is in the Details!

With several miniatures of a recent commission job nearing completion, I am very excited to get up some of the first of the Dark Elf Blood Bowl team that I have been working on!  Here are two (of four) Dark Elf Blitzers, both of which are actually GW Wood Elf Wardancers being substituted in for the additional two Dark Elf Blitzers...
(Vote on them at Cool Mini or Not!)

With the recent Harlequin that I finished for the Eldar, it was rather entertaining painting the 'masque' once again, trying to use color and basing to give a cold, calculating feel that is so organic to the Dark Elves... I am rather happy with the result!

Ironically, the first set of pics I took earlier today displayed this pair with neither having had the jeweling on the war-belt painted, or the brass knuckles painted on No5; so I had to put everything aside, take a break and come back to them (the Devil is in the Details!).  These two will work very well with the team they will be playing on, devilishly-fiendish masks and all, and I think that the DElf wintery motif was definitely accomplished!

Frosty is the Color Scheme!

With Christmas around the corner, and prepping for another commission job based on a "wintery" Grimm's Fairytales theme, I thought I would share a bit about color theory...

I am finishing up a job for a client (which I am excited to post!), and prepping for another commission job with another client.  I always do a 'one-off' approval piece before I get rockin' on the assignment.  This is a GW Dark Elf Lineman for a Blood Bowl Team "Grimm's Reapers."  The client based the team around a wintery theme, and my initial proposal was the following color scheme:

This was an attempt at an "analogous" blue color scheme.  Blue is a very interesting color; it is a color of trust (which is why salesman, attorneys, and police use it), as well as an appetite suppressant (want to lose weight? Put a blue light bulb on your fridge, or eat with a blue plate! LOL!), for our purposes here, it is a 'cooling' color and is definitely a 'winter' color.  Looking at this chart below, you can see different color scheme possibilities as it relates to how colors compliment each other:
(click the pic to enlarge)

If you rotate the "analogous" arrows from the blues toward the purples and into the reds, you will see in this next pic I simply 'adjusted' my color palette over a bit to bring in a cranberry (also a winter color), which contrasts nicely with the blues to add a little 'pop' to the miniature!

Notice how the cranberry color adds just enough between the thigh armor, head-piece, and number to add just the right "punch" of color, without compromising the color scheme.  Additionally, the white snow on the base pulls in the skull and bone nicely to add a subtle visual 'completeness' to the mini, giving it a well-rounded "wintery" feel.

I think the owner will be happy with this little adjustment, and will give me the "thumbs up" to move forward with the rest of the team! I'll let you know what he says!

Hope this is helpful... let me know what you think, feedback is always welcome and appreciated! :D
